Tonight was the Members-Only Ice Cream Social at Tyler Arboretum. I never miss this free event – until this evening. It is always a fun summer evening where I can connect with Tyler members that I know and meet new members. One summer, I ran in to one of my former students that I never knew was a member of Tyler! I am disappointed I missed her and all the ice cream festivities at Tyler this evening. There is not much that can pull me away from this event except – well, a Phillies game!

A beautiful view inside of Citizens Bank Park. Thanks, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, for donating tickets to Tyler Arboretum!
Tonight was a special trip to Citizens Bank Park for me. Last month, I attended the Tyler at Twilight Auction. Tyler at Twilight is an annual fundraiser for Tyler with a “garden party atmosphere,” entertainment, food, and live and silent auctions. June 13, 2013, marked the 11th consecutive year for Tyler’s largest fundraiser, and the event raised a record $128,000! Personally, I am a big fan of the silent auction. There is always a wide selection of items to bid on, including sports memorabilia and tickets to see Philadelphia area sports teams (I am a big sports fan!). I lost a bidding war with someone over a group curling lesson, but I won tickets to tonight’s Phillies game. And these were not just any tickets – they were tickets to Mayor Michael Nutter’s suite!
Although the Nationals beat the Phillies this evening, it was a really special evening at the stadium, one that I will never forget. I am going to keep my eyes out for these tickets and others next year at Tyler at Twilight. Watch out, everyone – be prepared to enter a bidding war (and I may even try for the curling lessons again, if available)!
